A number of diseases exist within Queensland that can affect horses including anthrax, equine herpesvirus, equine infectious anaemia, equine viral arteritis, Hendra virus, strangles, and tetanus.

Notifiable diseases

Biosecurity Queensland have a requirement that if you suspect a notifiable disease you must report it to Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 or the Emergency Disease Watch Hotline 1800 675 888. Racing Queensland also requires all notifiable diseases listed under AR.64K. (1) of the Australian Rules of Racing to be notified to the stewards. AR.64K. (2-9) and Local Rule LR.35. provides further rules to be followed in respect to notifiable diseases or conditions.
