A number of diseases exist within Queensland that can affect horses including anthrax, equine herpesvirus, equine infectious anaemia, equine viral arteritis, Hendra virus, strangles, and tetanus.

Notifiable diseases

Biosecurity Queensland have a requirement that if you suspect a notifiable disease you must report it to Biosecurity Queensland on 13 25 23 or the Emergency Disease Watch Hotline 1800 675 888. Australian Harness Racing Rule 104. (1-9) provides details on requirements for notification of and dealing with contagious diseases or conditions in standardbreds.
