Greyhound breeder licence categories

QRIC introduced new licence categories for greyhound breeders.

From 1 July 2019, the following licence categories apply: 

Category 1 –  Breeder, Whelper, Rearer and Pre-Educator
Category 2 –  Breeder, Rearer and Pre-Educator
Category 3 –  Breeder, Whelper
Category 4 –  Breeder

• Already licensed breeders will automatically be placed into the Breeder Category 1. Later this year, QRIC Licensing and Registration will be in contact with you to confirm if the category suits the activities you are undertaking. If not, you will be transitioned into the correct category.
   
• Licences continue to be made available to you free of charge.

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission have reviewed the breeders licence structure and have taken on board your feedback. As a result, new category changes for the breeders licence came into effect 1 July 2019 for all new participants to the industry.

Previously, the Commission offered separate breeder and trainer licences for greyhound participants, which collectively covered breeding, whelping, rearing and pre-training of young greyhounds. The previous structure required all licensees to obtain the knowledge and facilities for performing all activities such as whelping, rearing and pre-training, whether they carried out these activities or not. 

The new proposed licence categories 1 – 4 will now enable you to get the licence that is most appropriate for your specific activities.
