Queensland Winter Carnival Thoroughbred requirements

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission is encouraging all Thoroughbred racing participants taking part in the 2021 Winter Carnival to ensure they have all of their paperwork in order well before the commencement of the Winter Carnival on 1 May.

Visiting Trainer’s Permits must be completed and returned to thoroughbredstewards@qric.qld.gov.au as soon as possible prior to arrival in Queensland.

Locate your horse in Queensland within 200km of your race on the Wednesday before

Trainers must take note of the QRIC Steward’s directive for Group runners to arrive in Queensland within a 200km radius of the track you are racing by 12pm on the Wednesday before the race meeting, unless otherwise authorised by the stewards.

Arrival Times

All horses competing in Group races during the Winter Carnival from 1 May 2021  must be on course 3 hours prior to the start of their race.

Queensland Whip Rules will be enforced

Visiting jockeys must take note that QRIC stewards will be enforcing the Queensland Whip Rules throughout the Winter Carnival with harsh penalties imposed for offenders.

Chief Steward Peter Chadwick said that penalties for high stakes races will be considerably increased for both whip and riding offences.

“With high rewards on offer in feature races, the higher the penalties will be for breaching the rules,” he said.

“We are calling on everyone to help us ensure safety, integrity and high animal welfare standards throughout the Carnival.”
