QRIC Media Release: QRIC to re-examine Magic Millions 2YO Classic Runners
The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) veterinary department will re-examine runners in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic ahead of Friday night’s race meeting at the Gold Coast Turf Club.
Chief Steward of Thoroughbreds, Joshua Adams, said the decision reflects the QRIC’s commitment to ensuring the safety and welfare of all horses and riders involved in the high-profile event.
“With the delay to the Magic Millions race meeting, it is essential to reassess the suitability to race of the 2YO Classic runners to ensure they are able to compete safely,” Mr. Adams said.
“All 3YO Guineas runners were subjected to pre-race trot-ups prior to last weekend’s postponed meeting, however, as the 2YO Classic marks the first major race outing for many of these juveniles, we feel it is important to be extra diligent and will examine the two-year-olds again prior to Friday’s meeting.
“Our first priority is the safety of horses and participants. Conducting pre-race trot-ups provides a vital opportunity to confirm that all two-year-olds are in top condition and ready to perform to the best of their respective abilities.”
To further support the integrity of the race, the QRIC’s sample collection officers will be on-site Friday night to collect samples as part of its rigorous prohibited substance control strategy.
“Integrity and animal welfare are at the core of everything we do,” Mr. Adams added.
“Our approach ensures a level playing field for all competitors and promotes public confidence in the sport.”
“We’re grateful for the flexibility and cooperation shown by participants during what has been a challenging fortnight.
“Their commitment allows us to uphold the highest standards, and we look forward to a safe and successful conclusion to this year’s Magic Millions series.”
The QRIC remains steadfast in its obligation to uphold the Rules of Racing, ensuring the integrity and sustainability of the racing industry in Queensland.
