QRIC Media Release: Free food a thrifty incentive for greyhound adopters
Monday 15 May, 2023
Help a fast furry friend find their forever family before the financial year finishes and get free food for three months!
To mark the end of the financial year, the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) Queensland is offering a thrifty incentive for dog lovers who are dreaming of adopting a retired racer.
GAP Queensland is dedicated to rehoming retired racing greyhounds by matching them with the paw-fect owner.
Run by the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC), the organisation is on a mission to find retirement homes for every dog in its kennels by June 30.
GAP greyhounds are available to adopt for just $100.
They are always health and behaviourally assessed, vaccinated, wormed and microchipped, but for a limited time the program is offering the added perk of a free three-month supply of pet food* for everyone who adopts before the end of June.
QRIC Deputy Commissioner Natalie Conner hopes the campaign will encourage people who have been thinking about adoption to make the move.
“Greyhounds make great pets – some are high energy while others are lazy and laid back, but in general they are best described as quiet and gentle dogs that thrive in a home environment,” Ms Conner said.
“At the end of the financial year, we’re all thinking about our hip-pockets, so the GAP is offering a great financial incentive to adopt.”
“For dog lovers who have been dreaming of adoption, now is the perfect time to bring home a new furry friend, who will be very well-fed!”
GAP QLD’s Free Food for Three Months campaign will be showcased in a series of events throughout May and June.
Ms Conner said it will be an opportunity for people to meet GAP greyhounds.
“Our events and activations can be the first time some people have ever met and interacted with a greyhound,” she said.
“They’re a great opportunity to learn all about the breed, discover their benefits and quirks and speak to our team of experts to get all the information you need before making the decision to adopt or foster.
“Our retired racers have been put through their paces to graduate with a green collar – they have been assessed and trained to be pets, and we think our dogs are irresistible!”
