QRIC appoints experienced racing administrator as Regional Manager

15 December 2022

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) has appointed one of racing’s most experienced administrators as Regional Manager for Central and North Queensland.

David Aldred will return to Queensland in the New Year to take up this newly created role.

Racing Integrity Commissioner Shane Gillard said it was a welcome return for Mr Aldred who began his career in horse racing many years ago in Mackay and through the 1990’s led the revitalisation and rapid growth of the Sunshine Coast Turf Club.

“After holding CEO positions in another three states and overseas in Canada, Mr Aldred returned to Brisbane to work for Racing Queensland around seven years ago,” Mr Gillard said.

“More recently he has helped rebuild the greyhound racing brand in New South Wales where, as General Manager of Tracks and Infrastructure and Head of Racing Operations, Mr Aldred has been instrumental in Greyhound Racing NSW’s rapid development and positive change.

“We needed a Regional Manager with extensive racing experience to manage the Central and Northern integrity teams and our thoroughbred racing operations and we have hit the jackpot with Mr Aldred who also has great knowledge of the region.”

Mr Aldred said he was looking forward to taking up this newly created role.

“I’m excited to be back in Queensland and to join QRIC,” Mr Aldred said.

“This role is a perfect fit for me, and I am confident it will provide me with opportunities to make a difference.

“I will be looking to deliver positive outcomes for racing in the central and northern regions of the state and I believe my leadership skills and years of experience in racing across the three codes will benefit me greatly in achieving the desired results in this important integrity position.

Importantly this new role will allow me to assist and mentor others in meeting the day-to-day challenges in our sport,” he said.

Mr Aldred will commence work with QRIC on 3 January based in Central Queensland.
