Jockeys remain stood down after Inquiry

Two jockeys stood down on Saturday after failing to provide a urine sample will remain stood down after a Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Steward’s inquiry was opened into the incident today.

Matt McGillivray and Dale Smith were unable to provide a sample at Eagle Farm on Saturday 7 September after stewards provided them extra time, however both jockeys provided samples yesterday.

Chief Steward Peter Chadwick said today’s Inquiry determined that both jockeys would remain stood down until the analysts results were returned.

Saturday’s testing was part of a QRIC operation where all jockeys riding at Eagle Farm were directed to provide samples within an hour of their last ride.

QRIC Integrity Investigations Team (IIT) and stewards conducted further testing of riders at Eagle Farm and Doomben track work this morning.

As a result of this operation four riders were found to be unlicensed.

Eighteen samples were sent to Racing Analytical Services Limited for analysis and two samples taken this morning after preliminary screening, will be subject to further testing but no riders were stood down.
