Last chance to register for our GAP National Adoption Day Open Day this Saturday

27 April 2022

To celebrate National Adoption Month, the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission GAP welcomes all to their Churchable facility this Saturday to learn about our assessment, training and matching process used to find each greyhound their new family.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commissioner Shane Gillard said our GAP team takes each greyhound through comprehensive behavioural assessments.

“Our Behaviour Modification Plans are a tailored approach that provides our greyhounds with a targeted and specific learning plan that teaches these retired racers the necessary skills and knowledge they need to settle into pet life.

“In the final stages of the plan, the GAP team takes the greyhounds into the community to test their new skills and knowledge in a range of settings including environments they may not have been exposed to in their racing career.

“Each greyhound undergoes a green collar assessment where they are evaluated with the help of a range of assessment dogs to determine their behavioural responses.

“All GAP greyhounds which pass the GAP assessment process have successfully undergone green-collar accreditation.

“The GAP team then matches each greyhound with a suitable family by understanding the family including other pets and regular visitors to the home and leisure activities you will be undertaking with the greyhound.

“This process has been successful in ensuring our retired racers make a seamless transition to pet life with the right family.”

The GAP team is looking to adopt as many greyhounds as possible throughout April. We are looking for owners that will remind these retired racers of their new skills and knowledge. Potential adopters are welcome to check out the GAP website ( to see our dogs available for adoption.

In celebration of Greyhound National Adoption Month, we are inviting families considering a new four legged family member to visit our South East Queensland GAP facility at Churchable this Saturday 30 April 2022 at our Open Day.
