Jockey licence categories streamlined

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) has reviewed jockey licence categories to streamline the licensing process.

The two restricted licence categories have been removed for jockeys and apprentice jockeys reducing the number of categories from six categories to four.

From 1 July 2019 all jockey and apprentice licences will fall under the categories of either Metropolitan, Provincial, Country or Barrier Trial.

All jockey’s and apprentices that are affected by the change will now be licensed under the higher category. For example if a jockey is licensed under the now removed, Metropolitan Restricted category, they will be licensed under the Metropolitan category.

The changes are effective from 1 July 2019.

If you are a jockey or apprentice jockey that currently holds a restricted category licence, a QRIC officer will be in contact with you directly to discuss how the change will affect you.
