Bookmakers must be registered with BetStop

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) is reminding all bookmakers who take bets online or over the phone about their obligations to be registered with BetStop.

What is Betstop?

BetStop – the National Self-Exclusion Register™ is a safe and free Australian Government initiative to block yourself from all licensed Australian online and phone gambling providers. Betstop has been in operation since 21 August 2023 and is designed to assist punters exclude themselves from all online and phone wagering providers in one step.

Bookmakers’ obligations

If you take bets online or over the phone (at the racecourse or at an approved place in the case of an off course bookmaker’s licence) you must be registered with BetStop.

Bookmakers who offer their betting service online or over the phone in the case of a person who has registered with BetStop must not:

  1. Open an account for them
  2. Allow placing of any bets if they already have an account and you must close the account and refund any outstanding monies to the person.
  3. You must notsend the person registered with Betstop any marketing messages.
