GAP greyhounds can’t wait for their Ekka pats

8 August 2022

The Queensland Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) is excited to be back at the Ekka for the first time in three years and our greyhounds can’t wait.

GAP Operations Manager Leah Kellaway said our GAP greyhounds at the Ekka stand get a lot of attention and countless pats.

“That’s just heaven for our greyhounds, she said.

“They love the attention from the Ekka crowd and really, there is nothing else like that, where the dogs are exposed to so many people wanting pats.

“The dogs love it and the Ekka visitors do too, it really is just days of joy for us, to see the crowd enjoying our dogs and they just lap it up.

“For some Ekka visitors this is their first chance to meet a greyhound, so that is always great for us to introduce the breed to a new convert.

“Ekka is a great chance for us to show people the joy of owning a greyhound and the aim is to promote the breed, the work we do at GAP and hopefully adopt some dogs out in the process.”

“Our staff get to interact with the dogs every day, this is everyone else’s chance to understand the joy of greyhound ownership and the team will be celebrating at Ekka with heaps of give-aways for dog lovers, a colouring competition and unlimited greyhound pats.

“We would love to see you from 6-14 August, you’ll find us at the Stockman’s Rest just outside the main arena, so come and get your pat or two between 9am and 5pm each day.”

The GAP team will be available to answer questions about our adoption and fostering processes and greyhound behaviour.

Come along a meet our GAP greyhounds available for adoption.

The GAP team is looking forward to meeting you.
