Disaster Recovery Assistance
If you’re involved in the racing industry and have been impacted by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred or the North and Far North Tropical Low you may be eligible for financial assistance, grants or loan packages.
Eligibility will depend on your individual circumstances.

1. Primary producers (Department of Primary Industries/Department of Agriculture)
Financial assistance is now available to primary producers affected by Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred and flooding in South-East Queensland.
Assistance includes:
Disaster Assistance Loans – up to $250,000 to repair or replace damaged plant, equipment and buildings, and to assist to re-establish your business.
Disaster Assistance (Essential Working Capital) Loans – up to $100,000 for essential working capital to continue business operations.
Freight subsidies of up to $5,000 per property to move essential materials such as stock, feed, machinery, fuel, water, and building and fencing materials.
Free rural financial counselling from the Rural Financial Counselling Service.

2. Sporting clubs, including racing clubs
Sport and recreation disaster recovery program grants up to $5,000 for eligible not-for-profit sport and recreation organisations – visit: www.qld.gov.au/recreation/sports/funding/disaster-recovery or follow Sport and Recreation on Facebook for the latest plays from Queensland’s active industry or subscribe to our State of Play newsletter.
3. Recovery grants and loans (Queensland Rural and Industry Development Authority)
Grants and concessional loans are available from QRIDA for primary producers, small businesses and non-profit organisations impacted by recent disaster events, including the North and Far North Tropical Low.

4. Personal hardship assistance and support
If you have been impacted by Cyclone Alfred or the North and Far North Queensland Tropical Low event, you may be eligible to apply for personal financial hardship assistance.
Tropical Cyclone Alfred March 2025
Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred is affecting communities in southeast Queensland. Community Recovery is working hard to provide support as quickly as possible to impacted Queenslanders and thank you for your patience.
Personal hardship assistance is now available for some Local Government Areas.

North and Far North Tropical Low from January 2025
Heavy rainfall and flooding have affected communities in North and Far North Queensland.
