Applications open for independent Racing Appeals Panel

Wednesday 8 February 2023

Applications are open for the new independent appeals body that will provide racing industry participants with a quick and accessible avenue to review stewards’ decisions.

The new Racing Appeals Panel will help ensure racing decisions are made in accordance with the law and Rules of Racing to maintain the integrity of the racing industry in Queensland.

Expressions of interest are being sought for the roles of Chairperson, two Deputy Chairpersons and Multiple Panel Members.

The ideal candidates will have strong knowledge and understanding of the racing industry. The chair and deputy candidates will need a minimum of five years’ legal standing and panel members will require expertise in racing, veterinary science, or law.

The roles will be independent statutory officers appointed by the Governor in Council for a term of up to three years.

The Panel will replace the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission’s (QRIC) internal review system and mean that appeals won’t need to proceed through the Queensland Civil Administration Tribunal (QCAT).
