Marburg mistake to be investigated

A mistake which caused the incorrect placings of the third and fourth placed horses in Race 4 at the Marburg Harness race meeting today will be thoroughly investigated.

QRIC Commissioner Ross Barnett said after initial investigations it appears to be judge’s error in determining the third and fourth place getters to be transposed in error in Race 4, when number 4 Guts was declared in third place, however after the result was queried by the connections of the third placed horse, number 6 Rancho Man was correctly declared in third place.

“I apologise for this mistake that occurred today at Marburg by a casual judge employed by the Commission, this is a judge with many years’ experience and while it is regrettable, the Steward in charge acted as soon as possible to rectify the correct placings in the race, and all parties concerned were advised,” he said.

“The judge concerned was stood down immediately for the remainder of today’s meeting.

“This is a regrettable outcome for the integrity of the race concerned and for the betting public, who must have confidence in the judgement of placegetters in all races.

“However concerning, this is a very rare occurrence amongst the more than 14,000 races that are run and won in Queensland each year, and a full investigation will get to the bottom of how this occurred.”

The correct placings in Race 4 at Marburg are; 8 Burkthsystem, 1 Ifyoubelieve, 6 Rancho Man, 4 Guts.
