GAP Queensland Open Day on Saturday, 28 June 2025
Have you ever wondered what it takes to match retired racing greyhounds with the perfect home?
Greyhounds make wonderful companions – they are loyal, affectionate and are looking to become part of your family.
To celebrate greyhounds as pets, we’re inviting the community to learn more about the Queensland Greyhound Adoption Program’s (GAP QLD) work at our Winter Woofland Open Day being held at our Churchable kennels! Whether you’re meeting your pre-matched greyhound or looking for the perfect companion on the day, we’re here to help you find your new best friend.
GAP QLD finds family homes for greyhounds who have retired from racing.
Join us on Saturday, 28 June from 9am – 12pm for:
- A guided tour of our kennel facility to see firsthand what makes greyhounds so special.
- Attend a greyhound health and first aid session with the GAP QLD healthcare team where you’ll learn everything from recognising the signs of arthritis to dental disease to simple bandaging techniques and common gastrointestinal issues.
- All registered participants will receive a mini first aid kit ensuring they’re fully prepared to put their newfound knowledge into action.
- Enjoy pats, cuddles and try walks on leash with adoptable greyhounds.
- Register your attendance here: https://gapqld.com.au/event/gap-open-day-june-2025/
If you’re ready to adopt a greyhound, you can register to take your furry friend home at the GAP Open Day by completing the online adoption form at https://gapqld.com.au before the event and, telling us about your home and lifestyle. The GAP team will then review your application and match you with greyhound/s that best suit your needs.
Whether you’re registering to adopt in advance or adopting on the day, you will need to supply photos of your yard and fencing as well as details about your family, home and lifestyle. This information will help us process your application.
Please allow plenty of time to chat with the GAP team and meet with GAP greyhounds.
You can learn more about the GAP adoption process on our website: https://gapqld.com.au/our-greyhounds/adoption-process/.
QRIC Deputy Commissioner, Chantal Raine said that the GAP Open Day is a great day out for dog-lovers who have been thinking about adopting.
“We are excited to be opening our doors and inviting the community into our beautiful facility set amongst the trees near Atkinsons Dam at Churchable.”
“Our adoption and foster teams prepare retired racing greyhounds to transition to family home life and this is a rare opportunity to see their important work up close.”
“Tour the kennels and visit the sensory gardens, where we introduce greyhounds to new surfaces and objects they will find in their new home life.”
“Learn how we get to know each individual greyhound and adopting family so, we can match you with the right dog for your lifestyle,” she said.
GAP offers both pre-matched and on the day adoptions.
If you fall in love with a GAP greyhound, you will have the opportunity to pre-register to adopt and collect your dog at the Open Day event.
All GAP greyhounds are health and behaviourally assessed before being made available for adoption GAP greyhounds are also fully vaccinated and treated for the prevention of fleas, ticks and worms.
GAP Open Day is a free community event.
As much as we love dogs, our facility can’t accommodate additional dogs onsite on the day of the event. So, we ask that you please leave your dog at home (unless you are attending a pre-matched meet and greet).
Register your attendance online at https://gapqld.com.au/event/gap-open-day-june-2025/
