Magic Millions Runners Cleared to Race
10 January 2025
Pre-race veterinary examinations have been completed in the lead-up to Saturday’s Magic Millions race day at Aquis Park on the Gold Coast, with all runners cleared to race.
The inspections were conducted by veterinarians from the Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) throughout south-east Queensland this morning at the Gold Coast, Eagle Farm, Toowoomba, Beaudesert and on the Sunshine Coast.
Pre-race vetting provides an opportunity for horses to be thoroughly examined and deemed suitable for racing before race day. This practice supports the QRIC’s vigilant approach to animal welfare, aiming to reduce on-track injuries.
QRIC Deputy Commissioner Kim Kelly stated that an experienced team of on-track veterinarians will be present at tomorrow’s meeting to monitor the health and safety of the animals.
“It’s standard practice in Queensland racing for horses to undergo veterinary examinations and the QRIC takes a proactive stance on both animal and, industry participant safety and welfare. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank participants from both Queensland and other states for their support in undertaking the trot ups.”
“QRIC vets and stewards work diligently to ensure the safety and welfare of both racing animals and all racing participants including jockeys, trainers and stable hands.”
“The QRIC recognises that for some horses, training, travel, barrier loading and, the crowds on race day can make them particularly vulnerable to the stresses of a unique racing environment. Pre-race vetting performs a critical role in ensuring the racing health of the horses,” he said.
The QRIC is committed to ensuring that the 2024/25 Thoroughbred Summer Racing Carnival upholds the highest standards of integrity, animal welfare, and participant safety at every race meeting.
The QRIC has a role to uphold the Rules of Racing and, in doing so, acts to safeguard animal welfare and the integrity of the racing industry.
