Message from Racing Integrity Commissioner- Shane Gillard
28 July 2023
I’m sure you will agree with me that the recent vision that emerged out of South Australia earlier this week is both appalling and abhorrent.
Greyhound Racing SA (GRSA) stewards have served an inquiry notice and opened an investigation. Both trainers on the property have been suspended with immediate effect, pending a formal interview.
South Australian premier Peter Malinauskas announced on Wednesday 26 July, that an independent inquiry will be held into the greyhound racing industry in that state, following reports about alleged animal mistreatment. The terms of reference for the inquiry will be announced within a month.
The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission is strongly committed to ensuring we maintain the highest standards of animal care and integrity within the greyhound racing industry in Queensland.
This is a stark reminder for all within our industry and community that we all have a responsibility in maintaining those standards.
A key part of achieving this is to gather any information that may point to unlawful or inappropriate activity relevant to our industry.
QRIC strongly encourages all members of the industry to report any such information to stewards or via the Report Something hotline, for investigation.
Submit information via Report Something or phone 1300 119 291.
