Suitable fencing for a greyhound
If you are considering a greyhound as a pet the yard at your home and suitable fencing plays an important role in keeping a Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) greyhound safe.
Greyhounds are sighthounds and have been bred for thousands of years to chase and their chase instinct can be strong, therefore to keep a greyhound in your yard there are some requirements that must be fulfilled as part of your family’s application for a GAP greyhound.
Fencing constructed from inadequate material or to a height lower than 1.5 metres may not keep a greyhound retained and could provide an opportunity for the greyhound to get out.

Fencing tips
An additional fence topper could be added to increase the height of your fence to 1.5metres.
For height comparison, place a council wheelie bin (1 metre high) in front of your fence or gate.
Tighten all posts, rails and palings. Remove all loose nails and sharp objects.
