Four Queensland horses scratched after no notice stable inspection at a Toowoomba property

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards have scratched two thoroughbred horses set to run at the Gold Coast and two horses set to run at Nanango today following a no notice stable inspection at Toowoomba this morning.

The Commission’s Integrity Investigations Team (IIT) inspected the stables of Toowoomba Trainer Robert Smith when they allegedly found him in possession of needles and syringes.

Four horses set to run today were still on the property.

Following the discovery, a QRIC veterinarian attended to take swabs from all four horses and along with the needles and syringes that were seized the samples will be sent for analysis.

Queensland Racing Integrity Commissioner Ross Barnett said Mr Smith has denied any breaches of the rules of racing however, the Stewards acted swiftly to ensure the integrity of today’s races while investigations continue.

Tocokoe and Madam Mahal were scratched from Race 4 at the Gold Coast and Purple Gem and Boomtown Babe were scratched from Race 3 at Nanango.
