Horses on the way to recovery after QRIC animal welfare direction

The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission has given the owners of two race horses subject to an Animal Welfare Direction, permission to move them and continue with their care.

The racehorses were on agistment at a Pimpama property when they were found in a serious condition last month.

The Animal Welfare Direction prescribed that the owners immediately increase nutritional and feed intake under veterinary advice, further address the health of the horses under the guidance of a veterinarian, report any change in the horses’ condition and not move them without approval.

Racing Integrity Commissioner Ross Barnett said the Commission’s veterinarian had examined the horses and was satisfied they had recovered enough to be moved and to continue their rehabilitation.

“The Animal Welfare Direction remains in place and the Commission will continue to monitor the health of the horses,” he said.
