Harness Trainer/Driver Ray Law disqualified for two years

Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards have disqualified West Brisbane harness racing Trainer/Driver Ray Law for two years after finding him guilty of improper behaviour.

Stewards inquired yesterday into a physical altercation outside the steward’s room and in the birdcage area at Albion Park. Mr Law also made verbal threats to QRIC officials during the incident.

The incident occurred after the running of race 5 at Albion Park on 11 June 2019 when Mr Law’s horse Golddigger Girl was first past the post, but was relegated to fourth after a protest hearing.

The Stewards ruled that Mr Law was the instigator of the altercation, he failed to abide by the directions of the Stewards and engaged in improper behaviour towards officials and other harness racing participants.

The two year disqualification effective immediately, was handed down for breaching AHR 240 (c) to ensure it served as a deterrent to others and demonstrated that improper behaviour towards officials and licensed participants would not be tolerated.

Harness Stewards will consider reducing the two year disqualification to 18 months if Mr Law can provide documented proof that he has reformed his behaviour.

Redcliffe Trainer fined $10,000

In another Inquiry, Redcliffe Harness Trainer Donny Smith has been fined $10,000 after the analysts found an elevated level of Total Carbon Dioxide concentration (TC02) in a pre-race blood sample taken from Celtic Cruza.

A sample indicated Mr Smith administered, allowed or caused the administration of an alkalising agent in breach of AHR 196(1)(b) when it was engaged to race at Albion Park on 4 May 2019.

Mr Smith was advised that should he again be found in breach of this rule in the near future, consideration would be given to taking action against his licence to train.
