Key Points
- Raceday stalls, stable areas and horse movement zones are restricted operational areas and must remain safe and accessible.
- Children are not permitted in these areas due to the significant safety risks.
- Prams, strollers and similar items must not be taken into stalls or stable areas.
- Stewards and club officials may direct the removal of children or unauthorised items from restricted areas.
- Trainers and participants are responsible for ensuring their family members, visitors and guests comply with safety requirements and directions.
The Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) reminds all participants that raceday stalls, stable areas and horse movement zones are restricted operational areas.
QRIC Stewards have recently observed an increase in the presence of children, including very young children, in these areas.
Given the regular movement of horses, sulkies, vehicles, stable equipment, industry participants and integrity officials, often in confined spaces, this creates an unacceptable safety and accessibility risk.
Children must not enter or congregate in raceday stalls, stable areas or horse movement zones. Prams, strollers and similar items are not permitted in stalls or stable areas, as they can obstruct access, impede safe horse movement and create additional hazards for participants and officials.
Stewards and club officials may direct that children, prams or other unauthorised items be removed from restricted areas in the interests of safety.
Trainers and participants are responsible for ensuring that any family members, visitors and guests accompanying them to the racecourse comply with all venue safety requirements and any directions issued by Stewards or club officials.
QRIC is working with race clubs and Racing Queensland to strengthen monitoring and compliance in these areas. Maintaining a safe working environment for participants, horses and patrons remains the priority, and QRIC appreciates the cooperation of all industry participants.
