Greyhound Industry participants are invited to a behind-the-scenes Open Day event at the Greyhound Adoption Program (GAP) kennels at Churchable in the Lockyer Valley next month.
QRIC’s GAP runs a 20-acre purpose-built facility featuring indoor heated and air-conditioned kennels, including 14 outdoor runs and a fully equipped veterinary clinic, medical block, and quarantine kennels.
The Open Day on Monday 29 June 2026 provides a unique opportunity to explore the facility and learn more about the integral role of the program in preparing greyhounds for life after racing, with a strong focus on rehoming, welfare, and industry collaboration.
GAP Queensland Rehoming Manager Lisa Kohler said GAP prioritises its strong relationships with owners and trainers, and opening its doors enhances understanding by witnessing the program in action.
“By equipping owners and trainers with the right tools and knowledge, we can continue to improve rehoming outcomes via our Participant Rehoming Program (PRP) and ensure retired greyhounds thrive in their new roles as pets,” Ms Kohler said.
She explained that owners of racing greyhounds in Queensland are responsible for the welfare of their animals, including at the time of retirement.
“This event highlights GAP’s commitment to strong partnerships with industry participants to assist in rehoming retired greyhounds.
“We love to work closely with owners and trainers to ensure a smooth transition for the greyhounds into retirement homes.”
Ms Kohler said the event will allow attendees to gain hands-on insights into the rehoming process, from preparation for pet life to vital health considerations such as hookworm prevention, heartworm treatment, and dental care.
“Our team will also be available to answer questions and discuss the Participant Rehoming Program which supports the industry in meeting its rehoming obligations,” she added.
This industry-only event will take place from 10am at GAP’s Churchable kennels, located at 985 Atkinson Dam Road, Churchable. Morning tea will be provided.
Spaces are limited, and early registration is encouraged to secure your spot.
