A robust and extensive program of swabbing and sample collection will be led by Queensland Racing Integrity Commission (QRIC) Stewards in the lead-up to, and throughout, the upcoming Golden Greys Summer Carnival.

This proactive initiative forms part of QRIC’s ongoing commitment to maintaining integrity standards within the industry.

The expanded testing program will continue to focus on detecting prohibited and banned substances, ensuring a level playing field for all competitors and upholding the highest standards of animal welfare.

Chief Greyhound Steward Andrew Spence said the increased oversight reflects the importance of integrity in one of Queensland’s principal greyhound racing events.

“The Golden Greys Summer Carnival showcases the best of Queensland greyhound racing,” Mr Spence said.

“Through rigorous swabbing and testing, we are ensuring fairness, transparency, and the welfare of every greyhound that competes.

“That’s essential to maintaining the confidence of participants, stakeholders, and the wider public in our sport.”

He said Stewards would be targeting pre-race and post-race sample collection together with Out-Of-Competition testing as part of the program, supported by unannounced kennel inspections and further intelligence-led testing where appropriate.

“Participants can expect a strong stewarding presence during the series,” said the Chief Steward

“Everyone has a role to play in protecting the integrity of racing, and compliance with the Greyhound Australasia Rules and the Queensland Local Rules is an essential part of that.”

QRIC encourages all trainers, owners, and handlers to review their racing preparation and medication administration practices to ensure full compliance.

Strict penalties may apply for any breaches relating to the presentation of a greyhound with a prohibited substance.

This intensified integrity program continues QRIC’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of welfare and fairness in Queensland greyhound racing.
