Cairns jockey suspended for six months after excess alcohol reading

Apprentice jockey Amanda Thompson was today suspended for six months after a breath sample she provided after riding trackwork at Cairns Jockey Club on 30 October was found to be in excess of the permitted threshold of .02.

Ms Thomson’s licence was suspended from the day she was stood down on 30 October until 30 April 2020, with one month to be wholly suspended for a period of two years on the proviso that she confirms she has completed a drug and alcohol course.

Ms Thomson will also be required to provide a clear urine and drug test before her licence is re-instated.

Ms Thompson pleaded guilty to the charge under AR 139 (1) (a) and Stewards accepted her explanation for not attending her scheduled Steward’s inquiry on Sunday 3 November.
